ESTA Required: Yes
Singapore was accepted into the United States of America’s Visa Waiver Program on August 19, 1999. For Singaporeans, it meant that they could travel to the U.S. without a visa under certain conditions. It became even more convenient when the U.S. introduced the Electronic System of Travel Authorization in 2009. The system is an online platform where Singaporeans, as well as all citizens of all Visa Waiver countries, can apply for the ESTA travel authorization online.
The ESTA grants admittance to the United States of America for up to 90 days for the purpose of business, tourism (including medical purposes) and for attending non-credit study programs. Traveling to the U.S. for a longer duration or for other purposes means a tourist visa is required.

Since December 2018 it has been mandatory to apply for an ESTA at least 72 hours before boarding your flight towards the U.S. It is therefore widely recommended to apply as early as possible if you know you are traveling to the U.S. in the near future. Should the ESTA application be denied, a visit to a U.S. Embassy would be necessary to apply for a tourist visa. This could mean more time spent to get all necessary travel documents.
