Monaco joined the United States of America’s Visa Waiver Program (VWP) in 1991 together with many other European countries. And when the U.S. in 2009 introduced the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), citizens of Monaco has been able to apply for admittance into the U.S. via the online ESTA form.

The ESTA is a travel document/authorization that grants citizens of Monaco entry to the U.S. for 90 days. But only for business, tourism (including medical purposes) and non-credit study programs. Should your purpose be anything else or your stay for a longer duration, then a tourist visa will be required. A visa is different. It comes in many forms. And to get it, you will have to queue up at the nearest U.S. Embassy.

To get the ESTA, be sure to apply in good time (at least 72 hours before boarding your airplane). When you hold your approved ESTA, know that it is valid for 2 years and can be used multiple times.

How to get from Monaco to the United States

Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE) is the largest international airport close to Monaco. It is approximately 30km by car via A8 from Monaco-Ville which is about 40 minutes.

Getting to NCE Airport by train from Monaco:

Take the train from Gare de Monaco to Gare SNCF, then from Gare SNCF to the Aéroport Terminal 1. It will take you about 40-50 minutes depending on which trains you choose.

When should citizens of Monaco apply for ESTA?

Since December 2018, it has been required to apply for an ESTA at least 72 hours before boarding a U.S.-bound aircraft. Although, it is recommended to apply weeks in advance to make sure that the travel authorization (ESTA) is approved in good time.
