Airport options

Oslo Airport is the leading international airport of Norway. Located 22 miles northeast of Oslo, the airport offers 152 international destinations, including the United States. Arrival at the airport is not difficult as it is connected to the city by the high-speed railway. Other options for transport include rental cars, taxi or bus. Once you arrive, Gates D and E on the east and north pier are the gates designated for international flights. Oslo airport offers 20 restaurants providing food and drink service as well as duty-free shops, banks, and postal offices. Tromsø Airport, located at Langnes in the City of Tromsø, is another option for travel to the United States. Tromsø offers flights to New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, and Denver. The airport is situated on the western part of the island of Tromsoya and has two terminals, with Terminal B being its international terminal. Inside Tromsø’s international hall you will find a duty-free shop, kiosk, and small café. Tromsø, situated off County Road 862, is approximately 10 minutes from the city center. Travelers can choose to ride a city bus, take a taxi, or rent a car for travel to the airport as an option to driving.

All in all, many airports in Norway offer international travel, so a traveler’s options are not limited. Besides Oslo and Tromsø airports, Bergen, Trondheim, and Stavanger airports all offer international travel options. Dependent on where you reside in Norway, you are sure to find an airline and airport accommodating your travel needs.

When should citizens of Norway apply for ESTA?

The ESTA must be acquired at least 72 hours before boarding a U.S.-bound airplane. The 72-hour cut off became mandatory in December 2018. Therefore, applying in good time is advisable. All denied applications must apply for a tourist visa at the nearest U.S. Embassy. Visits to the Embassy means more time is required. So plan wisely. If you already know that you are traveling to the U.S. in the near future, then it is recommended that you apply right away.

Travelers from Norway with an approved ESTA can check their status or make updates. Visit these pages for additional information: Verify ESTA, Update ESTA.
